Ubuntu is actually an ancient African word |
I'm a HUGE customization freak. I just love tweaking things and making the aesthetics look better and picking out color patterns and icon packs and themes.....
So it's no surprise that my first distro was Kubuntu. Ubuntu is the distro most Linux newbies start out with and KDE Plasma is the most customizable DE. When you combine them together, you get Kubuntu.
Kubuntu was such a blast. That inital excitement was so fun. Since I've never used MacOS, I customized Kubuntu to look exactly like the MacOS desktop everything from the dock to the topbar. I generally got a sense that MacOS's desktop looked and functioned much better than stock Windows desktops.
I wish I had screenshots to show, but I didn't have this plan to blog about Linux so I never saved any screenshots.
I used this neon city skyline wallpapers and set them up for slideshow. I used the sweet theme made eliverlara and the candy icons included in that theme. It really complemented the entire look of the desktop.
Actaully no, now that I think about it, Kubuntu WASN'T my first distro. KDE Neon was.
KDE Neon is a derivative of Ubuntu made specifically by the guys who make KDE Plasma while Kubuntu was managed by the official Ubuntu team.
The only difference between KDE Neon and Kubuntu is that it gets faster updates for new versions of KDE Plasma that get released.
I used KDE Neon for like two days and switched to Kubuntu immediately. It was just a bit too janky and it felt like a noticeable downgrade from Windows. I'm sure that distro is great, and it may have been something wrong on my end, but KDE Neon just didn't click for me.
Switching from Windows to Linux I had to acquaint myself with a lot of these new terms and concepts. I had to use the command line much more. It takes some time to get everything set up the way you want it to, but the process is relatively easy and quick.
After some time, I felt like I needed a change. I wanted something truly unique and different compared to Windows and MacOS, which led me to my next distro: Pop_OS.
